Dr. Marta Alfaro, a pediatrician and Ridgefield resident and devoted mother of two boys who grew up in San Sebastian, Spain.
Dr. Alfaro attended medical school at the University of Navarra and completed a 10-year pediatric residency in the United Kingdom. In 2004, she came to the U.S. with her husband, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who was completing a fellowship in joint replacement at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. They were drawn to the welcoming nature and hospitality of the States and became American citizens. They made their home in Ridgefield.
Marta and her bilingual sons spend their summer in Spain. She knows the importance of learning a second language …and the benefits of introducing children to another culture. This led her to start Camp Sol Spain, a full Spanish language and cultural immersion program in San Sebastian.
Monica grew up in Madrid, Spain, where she obtained a Law-degree and worked for several years in the financial sector.
After spending some time in Italy, due to family relocation, she became fluent in Italian. Later on, and due to her interest in History and Social Relationships, she earned a Master in International Protocol, Etiquette and State Ceremony which took her to collaborate with several institutions organizing events and fundraising.
She lives in Greenwich with her two sons and her husband, but never skips a summer in Spain and Italy with the boys, so she makes sure they get all the exposure they need to master a language. Her passion for traveling and her unforgettable experience as a foreign exchange student in her teenage years, brought her together with Dr. Alfaro to build up this program.
